A research group made up of teams from six higher education institutions, under the aegis of Imagining America: Artists and Scholars in Public Life and with funding from the Teagle Foundation, has explored the relationship of civic engagement to the development of professional skills and vocational pathways within the context and values of the liberal arts.
This paper was designed to reflect on the accomplishments and challenges of the overall project both through evolving understanding of the conceptual framework and supporting research on civic professionalism and through the practical experience of each campus team in planning and implementing projects that linked vocational exploration, civic engagement, and the liberal arts.
