President Judith Shapiro participated as a panelist at the 2017 Education Writers Association's National Seminar, a conference of education journalists.
Panelists talked about free speech and censorship on college campuses. They discussed incidents of protests against commencement speakers, along with issues of safety, security costs, “hate speech” and the role of college administrations and faculty. Speakers included a college student from the University of California at Berkeley who founded a group that aims to create the free exchange of ideas without the fear of violence.
