Grant Summary
$25,000 over 7 months to support the AEA in surveying its constituents as part of laying the groundwork for a more intensive effort to engage academic departments in preparing future economists to teach effectively in their discipline in a variety of institutional settings. The survey, to be launched in fall 2015, will include economics Ph.D. programs that produce new economists (“producer”); academic programs that hire new economists (“consumer”); and newly hired economists in academic positions with teaching responsibility (“product”). The three surveys will complement one another to paint a more complete picture of the current landscape for teacher training in economics. Survey results will be disseminated through sessions at the annual meetings for the AEA and Southern Economic Association, in a report produced and disseminated to AEA members, and through an article in the peer-reviewed Journal of Economic Education.
