Grant Summary

$200,000 over 24 months to create a common intellectual experience through a gateway course anchored in core texts and a more coherent experience of general education through the Helios Certificate of Integrated Liberal Arts. Students at UW-Platteville can satisfy the gateway in one of two ways: through College Writing courses required of incoming first-year students or through a new course called “Introduction to the Humanities” to serve incoming transfer students. Students who complete either gateway will have the option to complete a 15-credit certificate program that provides thematically organized clusters of general education courses that complement pre-professional majors. Thematic clusters include The Environment and Sustainability, Land and Conflict Resolution, and Science, Culture and Society.
