Grant Summary

$235,000 over 36 months to establish a common intellectual experience anchored in core texts for incoming students and provide coherent pathways through general education. The common intellectual experience will be embedded in two courses successfully piloted during the planning period: HUMA 1301, a general education course approved to meet Victoria’s mandated student success course requirement, and ENG 1301, a general education course required by virtually all degree plans at Victoria College. Both the HUMA 1301 and ENG 1301 courses will be organized in five units that align with the five key majors offered at Victoria College—health, science and engineering, business and technology, industrial trades, and public service—that are being pursued by 85 percent of its student body. Core texts will also be embedded in other parts of the general education curriculum so students can pursue a core-text based pathway to fulfill their general education distribution requirements.
