Grant Summary

$50,000 over 24 months to support the Independent School Placement (ISP) & College Access Program. ISP places 55 students per year at independent day and boarding schools nationwide. BCNY has also created a new College Program Manager position to provide extra support to ISP students, as well adding 60 BCNY participants. The inclusion of this staff person will address the excessive student-to-guidance-counselor ratio at most public schools. For ISP participants at schools where guidance counselor ratios are not an issue, the person in this role will focus on the special needs of underserved youth, especially with regard to college financial aid. Students will be offered academic advising, workshops on college access, SAT preparation classes, FAFSA completion events, college trips and fairs.
