Grant Summary
$200,000 over 24 months to Fordham University and BronxWorks on the “History Makers Scholars” program to inspire local high school students to strive for academic excellence and to help them envision a college degree as a reality. Through an intensive five-week summer experience (in which one week is spent in residence on campus), rising high school sophomores and juniors are introduced to various aspects of New York City’s history and challenged to think critically about how their lessons intersect with their own perspectives and life experience. Students are supported by undergraduate mentors and staff at BronxWorks on research and writing activities as well as preparation of college application materials during the summer and over the course of the academic year.
