VIRTUAL LISTENING INSTRUCTIONS
1. Getting to the Virtual Listening. You have reached the Listening by this link: http://listenings.teaglefoundation.org. Alternatively, you can get to the Listening by going to the Teagle Foundation website (http://www.teaglefoundation.org). Move your mouse to “Liberal Learning” section of the menu bar at the top of the page. Doing so should open a drop-down menu. Scroll down to “Virtual Listenings” and click on it. This will bring you to the Virtual Listenings page. At the bottom of this page, click on the word “here.” This will open the log-in page in another browser window.
2. Logging In. Once you are at the log-in page, enter your assigned username and password and click “OK.”
- If you don’t want to have to enter your username and password every time you log in, click on the “Log me on automatically each visit” box.
- If you have forgotten your assigned password, click on the “Forgot your password?” link. This will bring you to another page where you can enter the e-mail address where you would like to receive your password. After entering your e-mail address in the appropriate box, click on the “Send me my account info” button.
3. Selecting a Virtual Listening. After logging in successfully, you will be brought to the Virtual Listenings Description page. Locate the Virtual Listening you have been invited to participate in and click on that link.
4. Posting new topics (Starting a new thread). Now that you’ve made it to the appropriate Virtual Listening, you have the opportunity to post a new topic for discussion. This is also called starting a new “thread.” To do so, click on the button. This will open another browser window where you can type your entry in the “Message” box. Make sure to add a suitable subject title in the “Subject” box. Click “OK.”
- If you wish, you can preview your post before it is published. To do so, click on the “Preview” button. This will bring you to the Preview page where you can review your message. If you are satisfied, click on “Submit the post.” If not, then click on “Go back to post” to edit.
Once you have submitted your post, you can either view the message you just created (click on “View the message”) or return to the thread (click on “Return to the forum”).
5. Reading topics that have already been posted. You can also read topics that have been posted by your colleagues. To do so, click on the desired topic link.
6. Replying to a post. If you would like to add to an existing post or thread, click on the button which is located at the top right-hand corner of the message box that you want to reply to. Enter your post and either click “OK” to submit right away, or “Preview” to review your message.
7. Logging out. When you have finished reading and posting, you can log out by clicking on the “Log Out” link at the top right-hand corner of window.
Please refer to the FAQs if you have either general or technical questions about the Virtual Listening. If your queries have not been sufficiently addressed by the FAQs, please do not hesitate to contact Cheryl Ching at cdching@teaglefoundation.org.
Just as a reminder:
- We require that you log in and provide at least three substantive and thoughtful contributions during this period.
- We will ensure the confidentiality of your comments and hope that you will feel free to be frank and candid in your remarks.
Once again, we appreciate that you have agreed to participate in the Teagle Foundation’s Virtual Listening, our version of an electronic bulletin board. Through this endeavor, we hope to stir up some interesting and open discussions.
Many thanks and happy posting!
